Improving Teacher and Principal Quality (Title II, Part A)

The Title II, Part A program is designed, among other things, to provide students from low-income families, students of color, and other students who have been disenfranchised by the education system with greater access to effective educators. In addition, the purpose of Title II, Part A is to increase the academic achievement of all students by helping Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) improve teacher and principal quality. This includes teacher preparation and qualifications of new teachers, recruitment and hiring, induction, professional development, and retention. In addition, Title II, Part A funds may be used to improve the skills and knowledge of principals for effective school leadership.

Educator Equity Data Collection

The Educator Equity Data Collection (EEDC) monitors teacher qualifications, including certification, endorsements, teaching assignments, and years of experiences as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

An Educator Workforce Development Workgroup was convened to focus on the implementation of Washington's Ensuring Equitable Access to Excellent Educators Plan (the state Equity Plan), the implementation of a teacher shortage bill (E2SSB 6455) and educator workforce development under the Title II, Part A section of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in Washington state.
