The federal education funding withholding data display shows the amount of federal K–12 education funding withheld from all 50 states on July 1, 2025, per full-time equivalent (FTE) student in each of Washington’s 295 school districts. The map uses color gradients to indicate withholding amounts, with darker shades representing larger withholding amounts per student and lighter shades representing smaller amounts. Hovering over each school district will show the district's FTE enrollment for the 2024–25 school year, the total amount of federal funding withheld (using fiscal data from the 2024–25 school year), and the amount of federal funding withheld per FTE student (using fiscal data from the 2024–25 school year).

The data download linked above the map includes the program-specific information used to create this data display. One tab of the data download shows only the information used to create the map (Washington’s 295 school districts only), and the other tab includes all funding recipients (school districts, charter schools, tribal compact schools, community-based organizations, grant programs, and statewide support and administration). Although the impact to Washington’s 295 school districts amounts to $102 million, the total impact of the funding withholding in Washington state is $137 million.

The Puget Sound is not seen in these maps, because Washington school districts’ legal boundaries are drawn over the Puget Sound.
